DOLPHINITY

Blog 50 A

According to Ted Andrews, author of Animal Speak: The Spiritual and Magical Powers of Creatures Great and Small, it is of great significance that the dolphin is a mammal that swims in the ocean. This has meaning because water is the symbol of creation, passion, and sexuality—the element of all life and new dimensions and forces. The dolphin has a rhythm to its breathing, and learning to breathe similar to a dolphin can be very helpful. Symbolically, dolphins can lead you to underground caverns and the primordial beginnings of yourself. In addition, the dolphin has sonar ability—it uses a series of clicks and responses—sound being the creative life force. Dolphins can show you how to enter the waters of life, and then with breath and sound call forth from those waters what you most need and desire. On several occasions, I was fortunate to swim with dolphins off the coast of Florida. These were magical experiences. As I heard their sounds, I experienced them swimming close to me, as if inviting me to pay more attention. I was aware of their ability to initiate and inspire deep changes in my life that I would ultimately generate.Of note is the organization Dolphinity Heart World, founded in 1996 by Linda Shay, author of Dolphin Love from Sea to Land. She describes how the quality of her relationships determines the quality of her life, and she refers to dolphins as masters of connection. In the book, she speaks of the telepathic encounter she had with a pod of wild Hawaiian spinner dolphins. She asked them, “What are you here to teach us?” “UNITY-COMMUNITY,” was their immediate reply. From my perspective, this is a message that applies to each of us as the planet struggles with challenges and obstacles never known before. Unity-community signals us to join hands and work on every level to create JOY on this planet! However, there are many ways to do this. Dear readers, it would be much appreciated if you would offer your perspective as to how this can be achieved. Can you think of ways to work this on a personal level (in your own being, in your home, in your community) and/or on a more global level? All comments and suggestions are welcome!

HOORAY FOR CHELSEA MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL!

Blog44A

I was recently so impressed by the important precedent set by Michigan's Chelsea High School. This year, they have chosen to replace the annual homecoming queen title with an excellence award instead. This change resulted from the high school’s 2016 #WhyYouMatter campaign. The new award will be open to all students regardless of gender. Drew Vanderspool, president of the Student Council, wrote in a letter, “Responses to the change have mostly been positive, though some students who were hoping to be named homecoming queen are disappointed.”

A Pennsylvania grand jury recently delivered its account of rampant abuse that involved 1,000 children, 300 priests, and 70 years of silence or denial from the Catholic Church. According to an Associated Press article on August 16, 2018, Pope Francis expressed shame and sorrow and stated he wanted to eradicate this “tragic horror.”

CHOICES OF THE HEART

IMG 0031

Joline Gutierrez Krueger, who wrote "Trading Stones of Hate for Stones of Heart" for the Albuquerque Journal, reported on the vandalism that stunned the North Fourth neighborhood. At least four businesses owned by, or catering to, the Hispanic or immigrant communities had glass windows and doors shattered by rocks. Hand-scrawled notes written on the rocks referred to the “Mexican mafia” and the wish for God to kill its members.
