According to the Hechinger Report, an online journal covering education and inequality matters, when Bradley Arrowood was in jail and given a textbook, he laughed because education was the last thing on his mind. When he was a child, Arrowood was told he’d never amount to anything. He grew up in California, dropped out of school when he was sixteen, and supported himself with illegal activities until he was twenty-three years old. At that time, he killed a man he suspected of sleeping with his wife. Arrowood was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1995, and he admitted that he “deserved every bit of my sentence.”

WHAT A CHOIR CAN DO

Blog72A

On the 150th anniversary of a music festival that originally inspired resistance to Soviet control and later received recognition from the United Nation’s cultural agency, tens of thousands of Estonians joined in singing folk songs on Sunday, July 7th, 2019. Blog70B

And more alcohol means more calories. Tequila, vodka, rum, and gin have zero grams of carbohydrates, so they don’t raise blood sugar, as long as you drink them straight up. If you have diabetes, you should count one drink as two fat exchanges.

GANDHI AND THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT

Blog69A

Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian activist and leader of the India independence movement against British rule. He lived from 1869 to 1948. In 1888, he traveled to Britain and studied law in London. He said, “When I was 18, I came in touch with a good Christian—who placed the Bible in my hand, and I became aware of the Sermon on the Mount, and it showed its practical relevance in the public affairs of the world.” Gandhi's eclectic mind assimilated the message of Jesus and made it his own. Consequently, he emphasized its relevance for peaceful living, including the practice of non-violence.
