THE MYTH OF DOING IT ALL

Blog15A

Many women struggle with the myth of having to “do it all.” In my forthcoming book I consider the woman who was a mother of two children. She also was a bookkeeper in a large organization and routinely brought work home. After spending time with her children in the evening, she stayed up late into the night, completing job-related tasks. Early in the morning she washed laundry and prepared meals in advance. She felt physically exhausted; she was riddled with guilt, because she believed stay-at-home mothers were better mothers; and she felt inadequate because her coworkers seemed to manage their workload during regular hours.

WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP: LEADING FROM THE HEART

Blog14A

Research conducted by the World Economic Forum in 2017 showed that even though women worldwide are closing the gender gap in leadership roles—especially in the fields of health and education—inequality continues in politics and the workforce. Women represent fewer than 50% of leaders in every industry analyzed—with energy, mining, and manufacturing showing fewer than 20% of leadership positions being held by women. Often I think of the Charles Darwin quote: “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive, but those who can best manage change.” Some changes are easy while others are difficult; some anticipated and planned for, while others hit us out of the blue.

NATURE AND FEMININE ENERGY

Blog11A

As we take time to observe nature, we find examples of the abundance of feminine energy. Consider ants: they are very social and are involved in community endeavors. They share a common goal that serves the queen, who has wings and the ability to fly until her eggs are fertilized. After this process, she pulls off her wings and sacrifices her own flight for the sake of the newborn and the future of the whole colony. Building complex homes in the earth, ants represent the ability to ground oneself and to work together for the common good.
